Marbella Twins with Batumi, Georgia
Last week, the Mayor of Marbella, Mª Angeles Muñoz hosted a senior delegation from Batumi, Georgia headed by the Mayor of Batumi. The objective of the two cities and of the twinning project is part of the enlargement policy of tourism markets from the City of Marbella towards emerging markets. During the visit, the delegation along with the Marbe
lla Municipality, signed a protocol agreement for joint cooperation in the sectors of trade and tourism and held an hour of talks with Mayoress Muñoz.
Georgia’s economy is undergoing a process of adaptation in its strong growth, which makes it a target country for the tourist market of Marbella. The collaboration with the City of Batumi becomes a tool to promote culture and trade within the Caucasus region and to promote Marbella as a new destination for Georgian Nationals.
Together with the Marbella Municipality, EuroGeorgia, DSP (Del Sol Packaged) and a number of Georgian Nationals resident in the area hosted an informal dinner and arranged visits to a number of touristic and residential developments. This included guided tour of old Marbella, Golf at Los Flamingos and lunch at La Zagaleta. Natalie Stuart-Fox the president of EuroGeorgia said “ This is an excellent opportunity for both cities to develop both trade and tourism. Georgia is rich in culture, gastronomy and investment opportunities and is seeking more exposurein European markets. Marbella is the perfect place to promote to the Georgian community and Batumi has so much to offer a beautiful place like Marbella”
By way of thanks, The Mayor of Batumi invited Mª Angeles Muñoz and her delegation to a reciprocal visit to Batumi in September together with a selection of the Marbella business community.

Moscow & St Petersburg and according to some data, the number of players is expected to grow from 5,000 to 25,000 over the next few years. Whilst it still may be a niche market, the number of courses being built in Moscow and St Petersburg and the number of players joining the Russian Golf Federation every year speak for themselves. The cost barrier to join a Russian club for most means that it is less expensive to book through a tour operator and travel to abroad to play. Due to the lack of promotion of Spain in Russia until now, the destination of choice is Belek in Turkey. However, it is the view of many that Spain is of much higher quality and is much more desirable as a destination to most Russian golf enthusiasts. The challenge for Spain is to get the message through to Moscow that Spain and specifically the Costa del Golf, should be the destination of choice for the travelling Russian golfer.
